Note on UNESCO National Commission Meeting

Keith Lewin, Alison Croft, Janet Stuart attended the UNESCO National Commission Teachers and Teacher Education for EFA in Africa Meeting on May 14th.

The Draft Report for the UK National Commission was presented by Bob Moon and Keith acted as respondent. Janet Stuart and Alison Croft were also at the conference and commented on the paper. The MUSTER project has clearly been influential and was referred to several times. So also was the importance of teachers for access issues in the context of CREATE research programme. Caroline Pontefract (Head Teacher Education Section UNESCO), Virgilio Juvane (ADEA Working Group), and Michael Day (Executive Director ITT DFES also contributed to discussions. The Permanent Secretary in the DfES has entered into a twinning relationship with the PS in Rwanda. There will be an annual conference in Paris to coincide with teachers day later in the year organised by UNESCO. Several collaborative opportunities were identified with the UK constituency.
