Second annual CREATE lecture

The second annual CREATE lecture was held at the London International Development Centre on November 18th 2008. Dr Harsha Aturupane, senior economist at the World Bank in Colombo, presented a fascinating lecture titled The Pearl of Great Price: promoting equitable access to education in Sri Lanka over sixty years.

The lecture was chaired by Professor Angela Little and Professor Geeta Kingdon was the discussant. Many staff and students from the Institute of Education, London attended and were joined by colleagues from CREATE-Sussex, CREATE-Witwatersrand, CREATE-Cape Coast, Kings College, London and DFID. The lecture was followed by a CREATE reception at which Professor Keith Lewin spoke. Dr Aturupane's lecture will be published in the CREATE Pathways to Access series in due course.

CREATE sponsored a second lecture by Dr Aturupane at the House of Lords on November 17th - Sri Lanka: 60 Years of Educational Progress and Challenge. The lecture was organised by the Council of Education in the Commonwealth and was chaired by Mr Tim Boswell M.P.. Professor Angela Little was the discussant.
