About the CREATE database
The Consortium for Research on Educational Access, Transitions and Equity (CREATE) has developed a searchable online bibliographic database with over 1,400 entries on themes of access to education. The database is free to use and available to anyone with internet access.
The CREATE database has been designed for use by people interested in education and development issues. Specifically it is focused on issues of access to education. Its intended users include education researchers, policy makers, educational professionals, people working in national and international organisations, librarians, students, the media and the general public. The CREATE database provides full bibliographic references for a range of educational resources around access to education, including bibliographic references to journal articles, reports, books, book chapters, theses, conference proceedings and other education materials.
CREATE covers a range of issues in relation to educational access, many references are included within this database. Topics include:
| Educational financing | Public/private costs | Child labour / opportunity costs | Aid | Economics of education |
| School practices and processes |
Teachers | State providers | Non state providers | Inclusions and exclusions |
| Locational aspects | Rural/urban | Fragile states | Migration | Community |
| Social aspects of access | Household determinants of access | Poverty | Gender | Health |
| National / international initiatives | Statistics | EFA | MDGs | Education rights |
| Aspects of access | Drop outs | Enrolment / non-enrolment | Absenteeism | Out-of-school youth |
Search facilities: There are two types of search facility on the CREATE database:
-
Simple Search: The Simple Search allows users to search on the main fields of the database: author, title, year, publication, keywords and the abstract.
-
Advanced Search: The Advanced Search allows users to search all database categories.
Key word search: All entries on the CREATE database have been given keywords to help the search process. There are a large number of keywords. Click here to see the keywords in alphabetical order. Use the keywords provided to search.
Abstracts: Where possible the CREATE database provides abstract information for the entry. Abstracts tend to provide basic background information to the piece and maybe a useful way to identify relevant materials. Abstracts have been taken from a number of sources: from the article itself, via a third party source or it was summarised by a CREATE team member. CREATE has sought to attribute each abstract to its correct source. CREATE has also tried to obtain permissions to use abstracts taken from third parties and directly from articles/reports (see: Permissions and disclaimers). If you notice any information is incorrect or if you wish to contact the CREATE team about permissions, please use the email link below.
CREATE Notes: The CREATE Team has also added additional notes in some instances. These in particular try to highlight the relevance of the resource to issues of educational access and pulls on themes related to access.
Web links to resources: Where possible the CREATE database provides a direct link to the resource if it is available on the internet or if not a link to a source of further information. Click on the 'www' sign next to the entry if it is available. The CREATE Team is aware that these links change, so if you notice a broken link please get in contact with us and we'll try to change this.

Permissions
Abstracts have been taken from a number of sources: including the article itself and via a third party source. CREATE has sought to attribute each abstract to its correct source and gain permissions to use the abstracts. The following organisations have kindly given permission for use the abstract material on the CREATE database:
While CREATE has not been able to gain permissions for the use of every abstract it is using, it hopes that authors and third parties will be accepting. If you wish to contact the CREATE team about permissions, please use the email link below.

There are a number of disclaimers that the CREATE team would like to make with regard to this database.
- This database is an output from the CREATE programme funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID). The views expressed within the database entries are not necessarily those of DFID or CREATE. Any comments on the research should be addressed directly to the authors.
